Cosculluela: La Calle Me Hizo

Urban music singer Cosculluela comes from a humble family, and as a kid, he was not exposed to underground music.

But as he got older, at the barbershops and as cars passed by blasting the music, he found a deep appreciation for the musical genre and quickly adapted to it. "Since then, I loved music. I always knew my priorities, which was putting in work at the studio, then my day job, so I was living a double life", recalled the star.

Where ever he lived, he built the recording studio there, to continue to make his music. That's how it was up to the time he moved with his grandmother to Guaynabo, while he was attending the University del Sagrado Corazon where he worked on his Bachelor's. He also worked at Popular Mortgage.

"When I would finish working or studying I would get home and work on my music until late hours of the night. Then I would get to work still half-asleep with baggy eyes and all. I realized I had to leave work when the kids of the mothers at my job recognized me", he added.

It's because since he was six years old, he was somewhat hosting reggaeton mixtapes, especially his good friend Buddah, like for example "Buddah's Family".

"For a long time I had the idea that if I wanted to make it, I would have to be on the radio, so I began to pirate my music and put it on the internet. And I began to get into other things. I would hear the cars ride by playing my music real loud and my songs were being requested on the radio", he also stated.



El cantante de música urbana Cosculluela proviene de una familia acomodada de Humacao y, mientras era pequeño, no estaba expuesto a la música “underground”.

Sin embargo, según fue creciendo, en las barberías y a través de los carros que pasaban con el volumen alto por su pueblo, tuvo un encuentro con el género musical y rápidamente lo cautivó. “Desde entonces, siempre tuve la música como meta. En cada etapa tenía claras las prioridades, que en su momento fueron los estudios, después el trabajo, pero siempre llevé una doble vida”, recordó el cantante.

Lo que hacía era que donde viviera montaba su estudio de grabación, para crear su música. Así ocurrió cuando se mudó con su abuela a Guaynabo, mientras hacía su bachillerato en mercadeo en la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. Y también, mientras trabajó en el área de hipotecas de Popular Mortgage.

“Cuando terminaba de estudiar o trabajar llegaba a la casa comía algo y me ponía a grabar hasta las tantas de la madrugada. Luego llegaba dormido al trabajo, con tremendas ojeras. Me di cuenta de que tenía que dejar el trabajo cuando los chamaquitos que acompañaban a su mamá me empezaron a reconocer”, señaló.

Y es que desde hace seis años Cosculluela comenzó a hacer intervenciones en discos de reguetón, especialmente en los de su amigo Buddah, como por ejemplo “Buddah’s Family”.

“Por mucho tiempo tuve la idea de que para pegar había que sonar en la radio, así que empecé a piratearme y metía mi música en internet. Entonces se empezó a regar. Oía que los carros pasaban con mi música a todo volumen y pedían mis canciones en la radio”, recuerda el joven, quien es padre de José Fernando, de dos años.
